Dr. Sharaf is a well-regarded expert in 21 CFR 111 and 21 CFR 117. He is an authority on dietary supplements, and particularly those containing botanical ingredients, claim development, claim substantiation, dietary ingredient review and specifications development, and quality control. At EAS, he is responsible for managing and providing label review consulting activities for conventional foods, animal foods, dietary supplements, and cosmetics. He manages product detentions, new dietary ingredient (NDI) submissions, and cannabis related consulting projects. His professional career is divided between academia and industry. He taught undergraduate and graduate pharmacy courses. He was the Chief Science Officer for the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) and the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) Director of Foods, Dietary Supplements, and Herbal Medicines
